Shar Pei mix Pitbull

Recently my favorite pet supply store was having a pit bull rescue event when we went in for dog food. I have to admit I was a bit concerned at first as I have no experience with pit bulls except what I have read and seen in media. I decided to go to the corner where two dogs were and found two ginormous dogs. Well the dogs themselves were not ginormous but lord, their muscles were. They looked like the equivalent of steroid taking body builders.

I let my daughter approach them in the safe manner I have taught them to approach any new dog. Their handlers were holding on really tight and I could see how easily one could get away.

My questions are:

Is it my imagination or did their fur feel different from any other short haired dog? I just might have been on super alert and let that affect my senses.

Are all pit bulls so muscle bound? I mean these dogs were like a cartoon dog with huge bulging muscles all over their bodies. I know nothing about their background except they were gentle and even playful but gee-they were like no other dog I have ever seen.

theres different "types" of pitbulls...

the "true" american pitbull terrier is a smaller well muscled but not "ovely muscular" dog, slim, slight and build to strenght speed and stamina...
these guys are generlaly 35-45lbs...

then theres the varying types that have been produced. some more muscled, some with a more bully look, wider stockier...and some that are so Overdone theyve been nicnkamed "hippos"

this is part of the reason theres such an issue with "pit bull" attacks, theres so much variation within the breed and soe many dogs often also labeld pitbulls when they arnt that most people have no clue what a pitbull actually looks like lol

then add to the confusion you also have the staffordshire bull terrier, the american staffordshire bull terrier, the american bulldog, the american bully and any mix thereof that are also often mistakingly labled as pitbulls lol

and yes the texture of a pitbull (along with most bulldogs) is different, its a very short very tight but slightly coarse coat giving it a heavy almost slightly rough feel.

im glad you got to have a positive experience with the beed (even if it was a little overwhelming lol) they realy are a great breed no matter what their "type"

There fur feel just like my mini-dachshund.

I am involved with Pit rescue, and it is THE BREED that I would recommend to families with children. No not the Golden Retriever, not the Lab, the pit bull. These dogs take a lot and forgive easily.

Here's Ninja. She's 40 lbs and very lean as well. While she isn't the physically strongest dog I have been around, she is easily among the most athletic. She is amazing with a frisbee and she occasionally climbs trees. She is very gentle around children and gets along with most dogs and cats.

Her body fur is somewhat course, but her head is as soft as the softest fur coat. Her belly fur is so thin it is almost hairless.
